Privacy Policy
How we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use Public Proof.
Last updated: July 10, 2026
Public Proof (“Public Proof,” “the App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a community accountability platform for documenting and sharing public interactions. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices and rights you have. By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.
Information We Collect
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, username, and the version of the Terms and Privacy Policy you accepted. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive basic identity information from that provider.
The App also stores the content you choose to create, including:
- Public employee reviews (ratings, categories, narratives, and any attached media);
- Complaints (category, severity, description, and attachments);
- Community posts and comments, including geographic tags and mentions you add;
- Direct messages, support requests, and their attachments;
- Live streams and any replays you choose to save; and
- Photos and videos you attach to any of the above.
If you start a trip recording, the App collects your precise location — including in the background, if you allow it — to record your route and estimated speed, and optional audio you choose to record. This happens only while a trip is active. Your camera and microphone are used only when you choose to capture media or host a live stream.
We also collect limited technical information such as device type, operating-system version, and push-notification tokens, and we use CAPTCHA challenge signals to protect sign-in and sign-up from abuse.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Authenticate you and secure your account;
- Operate the App’s features — reviews, complaints, posts, messaging, live streaming, and private trip reports;
- Display verification badges where applicable;
- Send the notifications you enable (messages, support updates, trip reminders, and important account activity); and
- Keep the platform safe through anti-abuse measures such as CAPTCHA and rate limiting.
We do not sell your personal information.
What’s Public and What’s Private
Content you publish — such as reviews, complaints, and community posts — is visible to other users of the App by design. Direct messages and private trip recordings are not public.
Public Proof does not verify the accuracy of user-submitted content. You are responsible for what you choose to make public, and for ensuring it is truthful and lawful. Please be thoughtful about the personal information you include about yourself and others.
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure and encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to private content is enforced on our servers on every request, and authentication tokens are kept in your device’s encrypted secure storage.
While we implement commercially reasonable security measures, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Device Permissions
The App requests only the permissions it needs, and only for the purposes described below. You can grant or revoke any of these at any time in your device settings.
- Camera — to capture photos and videos and to host live streams.
- Microphone — used only when you choose to record audio for live streams, video attachments, or private trip documentation.
- Photo Library — to attach photos and videos to community posts, reviews, complaints, and saved live replays, and to save replays to your device only when you choose to.
- Location — to suggest your community zone and, when you start a trip, to record your route and estimated speed. With your permission, an active trip can continue recording in the background if you leave the App.
- Notifications — for trip-recording reminders, messages, support updates, and important account activity.
Recording & Consent
Some features let you record audio and video of interactions with other people. Recording-consent laws vary widely by location — many jurisdictions require the consent of all parties to a conversation, not just one.
You are solely responsible for complying with all applicable local, state or provincial, and federal laws regarding recording and privacy in your jurisdiction. Public Proof does not verify or guarantee the legal compliance of any given recording, and you assume responsibility for how you record, store, and share it. See the Terms & Conditions for more.
Third-Party Services
The App relies on third-party processors to operate. Each has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data, and we encourage you to review them:
- Supabase — backend, authentication, and storage;
- hCaptcha — bot and abuse protection;
- Apple and Google — optional sign-in;
- Mapbox — maps and geocoding for trips; and
- LiveKit — live streaming.
Your Rights & Account Deletion
You may access and correct your profile information at any time in the App. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you; to contact us, use the details in Section 12.
You can delete your account yourself from Settings → Security → Danger Zone → Delete Account. Deletion is scheduled with a 30-day grace period during which you can change your mind by signing back in. After that window, your personal information and the content you authored are permanently purged from our systems.
Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App. When you delete your account, we remove your personal information and authored content after the 30-day grace period, except where we are required to retain certain records to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
Children & Eligibility
Public Proof is not directed to children. You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction [minimum age to be confirmed] to create an account. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted here and within the App, and the “Last updated” date will be revised accordingly. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
