Terms & Conditions
The agreement between you and Public Proof when you access or use the App.
Last updated: July 10, 2026
Please read these Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) carefully before using Public Proof (“Public Proof,” “the App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the App.
Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account and using the App, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the App.
Eligibility & Account Responsibilities
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction [minimum age to be confirmed] to use the App. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
You agree to provide accurate information during registration, to keep it current, and to notify us if you become aware of unauthorized use of your account. You may sign in with your email, or through Apple or Google; use of those providers is additionally subject to their own terms.
Nature of the Platform
Public Proof is a platform for documentation and community awareness. It is a place to record and share experiences — it is not a source of verified facts.
Public Proof does not verify, endorse, or guarantee the truthfulness, accuracy, or reliability of any user-submitted content. Content on the platform reflects the views and experiences of the users who post it, and not those of Public Proof.
You are solely responsible for the accuracy of everything you submit. By posting content, you represent and warrant that it is truthful, submitted in good faith, and based on your honest, first-hand experience. You should not treat content on the platform as verified fact, and you rely on it at your own discretion and risk.
Acceptable Use & Prohibited Content
Public Proof exists to give communities a truthful, good-faith record, and to encourage lawful, responsible reporting only. You agree to use the App lawfully and respectfully. You must not submit, post, or transmit content that:
- Is false, misleading, fabricated, or knowingly inaccurate;
- Is defamatory, libellous, or otherwise unlawfully harms a person’s reputation;
- Harasses, threatens, bullies, stalks, or intimidates any person;
- Is discriminatory, or promotes hatred or violence against any person or group;
- Invades another person’s privacy or unlawfully exposes their private or identifying information;
- Is obscene, or that sexualizes or exploits any person, and especially any minor;
- Impersonates any person or entity or misrepresents your affiliation;
- Is spam, or involves impersonation, coordinated activity, or automated misuse of the platform; or
- Violates any applicable local, state or provincial, or federal law, or infringes the rights of any third party.
Content that abuses the platform may be removed, and repeat or severe violations may result in account suspension or termination.
Recording & Consent
Some features of the App let you record audio and video of interactions with other people. Laws governing the recording of conversations and images vary significantly by location. Many jurisdictions require the consent of all parties to a conversation before it may be recorded — not just the consent of one party.
You are solely responsible for knowing and complying with all applicable local, state or provincial, and federal laws regarding recording, wiretapping, consent, and privacy — both in your jurisdiction and in the jurisdiction of anyone you record. Public Proof does not verify, and does not guarantee, the legal compliance of any given recording.
By recording, storing, uploading, or sharing any recording through the App, you represent that you have obtained every consent required by law, and you assume all responsibility and liability arising from that recording.
Your Content & Intellectual Property
You retain ownership of the content you create. By publishing content in the App, you grant Public Proof a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and distribute that content within the App so the service can function. Deleting your account ends this license for your personal data as described in the Privacy Policy.
The App itself — including its design, features, and branding — is owned by Public Proof and protected by intellectual-property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App for its intended purpose.
Moderation, Reporting & Disputes
User content reflects the views of its authors, not of Public Proof. We reserve the right — but assume no obligation — to review, moderate, hide, or remove any content that violates these Terms, and to suspend or terminate accounts to enforce them.
If content has been posted about you, or you believe content violates these Terms, the App provides built-in tools to address it:
- Report a community post, comment, review, or direct message using the in-app report option, and choose a reason (such as spam, harassment, false or inaccurate information, or inappropriate media);
- Dispute a complaint made about you, if you are its subject, directly in the App (with reasons such as inaccurate, mistaken identity, bad faith, or already resolved) — an upheld dispute hides the complaint; and
- Block another user to hide their content and prevent further interaction.
Reports and disputes are reviewed by our moderation team, which may hide or remove content and take action on accounts. You may also reach us using the contact details in Section 13. We aim to handle reports fairly and in good faith, but we do not guarantee any particular outcome or timeframe.
Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability
The App is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
Because Public Proof does not verify user content, we are not responsible or liable for any user-submitted content, including its accuracy or legality, for any reliance you place on it, or for any recording made using the App. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Public Proof shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, reputation, or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the App.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Public Proof and its operators, officers, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to: (a) content you submit; (b) any recording you make, store, or share through the App; (c) your violation of these Terms or any applicable law; or (d) your infringement of any rights of a third party.
Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the App for violations of these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately. You may delete your own account at any time from Settings → Security → Danger Zone → Delete Account, subject to the 30-day grace period described in the Privacy Policy.
Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. Changes are effective upon posting here and within the App, and the “Last updated” date will be revised. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the applicable federal laws of Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. You agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Ontario, Canada for the resolution of any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the App.
